A MANICURE THAT LAST
Before applying your base coat, wipe your nails with a cotton pad soaked in white vinegar or rubbing alcohol. This removes natural surface oils that prevent nail polish from bonding properly. Apply your polish, seal the absolute tip of the nail edge, and you're good to go!

CAR TIP OF THE MONTH
Are your windscreen wipers leaving streaks or squeaking, even though they aren't torn? Before replacing them, grab a clean microfiber cloth or a paper towel soaked in rubbing alcohol or warm soapy water. Run it firmly along the rubber edge of the blades a few times to strip away hidden road grime and tree sap. Wipe dry, and your vision will clear instantly!
Useful ideas, inspiration and things worth knowing — with something new every month.
HOME TIP OF THE MONTH
Try mixing equal parts white vinegar and warm water in a spray bottle. Spray lightly, wipe with a clean cloth and finish with a dry microfibre cloth. Need new windows rather than a clean?
Every month, we'll hide one of our cards in a few Local shop windows. Collect all the letters shown on the A7 cards to spell out a 4-letter word. Tell us the word and you could win a £25 M&S voucher!
This month's challenge: Find the hidden cards in the Carrington shop windows and collect all four letters to spell a word. Tell us the word and where you found them using the form on the right.
WIN AN M&S £25 LOCAL VOUCHER

THE 10-SECOND CARPET TRICK
Rearranging your living room and left with ugly, crushed carpet divots where the sofa legs used to sit? Don't panic. Place a single ice cube directly inside the dent and let it melt completely over a few hours. The carpet fibers will slowly absorb the water and swell back up. Once dry, give it a quick flick with a regular kitchen fork or your vacuum nozzle to completely erase the mark!

THE ULTIMATE KITCHEN FOIL HACK
Don't throw away those dull kitchen scissors that chew through paper instead of cutting it! Grab a sheet of ordinary aluminum kitchen foil and fold it over three or four times so you have a thick strip. Take your blunt scissors and make 8 to 10 rapid snips straight through the folded foil. The friction acts like a micro-hone, instantly smoothing out microscopic burrs and sharpening the blades.

ELECTRICIAN TIP OF THE MONTH
Overloaded extension leads are one of the biggest causes of winter house fires. Never plug high-draw appliances like kettles, space heaters, or washing machines into a multi-way extension lead—they should always go straight into a main wall socket!

THE SILK PILLOW HAIR HACK
Waking up with wild, frizzy hair or tangled knots that take ages to brush out in the morning? The culprit is likely your standard cotton pillowcase. Cotton creates rough friction against your hair cuticles as you toss and turn, stripping away natural moisture and causing breakage. Swapping to a smooth silk or satin pillowcase allows your hair to glide effortlessly over the surface, keeping your morning style smooth, shiny, and completely frizz-free!
